FAQ

What makes a Furnace Filter to your Door filter better than others?

Electrostatic filtration enables the capture of microscopic particles within the air that circulates through the filter. We offer many size and merv rating options. We deliver your filters directly to your door when it is time to replace them.

Why is the box the filter is delivered in, so big?

It has been found that when shipping furnace filters in a box the exact size of the filter, damage to the filter occurs more often.

What is the difference between your filters a fiberglass filter?

Fiberglass filters are not electrostatic; therefore do not capture many of the microscopic particles that can cause allergies.

Why is a disposable filter better than a washable/reusable filter?

You can avoid the hassle of removing, washing and drying washable/reusable filters.
Reusable filters can grow molds if not completely dry prior to re-installing.
Furnace Filters to your Door filters will not support the growth of mold.
Most reusable filters are within the MERV 2 - 6 range (low compared to the MERV 8-12 range of disposable filters).

Why should I change my filter every 3 months?

Regularly changing your filter helps keep your furnace running more efficiently and helps keep the air that circulates through the filter and into your home cleaner. Your furnace or air conditioner can lose up to 20% of its efficiencies when you do not maintain a clean air filter.

I have been told to replace my filter every 60 days, why?

There are reasons to replace your filter every 60 days. If anyone in your home has issues with allergies, is a smoker, has pets, or if any construction is ongoing you should consider replacing your filter every 60 days. This will make sure your system is running as efficiently as possible.

What is MERV?

MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) is a rating system used for filters to identify their ability to capture ranges of particle sizes from the air that passes through the filter. MERV is based on a laboratory test and is not representative of how a filter will actually perform in a home. The test overstates the effectiveness of electrostatic filters. This rating can help you compare filters but should not be the sole basis for evaluating a filter.

Who is Merv?

For the purposes of this site Merv has been created to help us explain the differences in filter ratings. When my air conditioning business talks to our clients about indoor air quality there is always a lot of confusion with the differences of filtration.

Why do furnace and air conditioning manufacturers place low Merv rated filters in their new equipment?

All equipment manufacturers sell upgraded filtration options. In my opinion the reason these same manufacturers place low Merv rated filters in their furnaces and air handlers is due to the fact that most homeowners never touch their filters. We see homeowners all the time that rarely if ever replace their filters. If manufacturers installed say Merv 11 filters in their equipment and the homeowner did not replace it at the appropriate time the restricted air flow caused by this efficient filter being clogged would cause the equipment to not operate properly.

Why did you start Furnace Filters to your Door?

Owning an HVAC contracting business has us constantly trying to improve the services we provide to our clients. These same clients have told us time after time that they forget when its time to replace their filters. We determined that the best reminder is to actually deliver a filter to your door when its time to replace it. While putting the systems in place to provide this service to our clients we realized we could offer this service to anyone in the Continental United States. The rest is history and Furnace Filters to your Door was created.
